      AUBURN – Nancy L. Frankhauser, 71, of 53 Partridge Lane, died Sunday morning, Dec. 23, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin following a short illness.

      She was born in Lewiston, on Feb. 9, 1936, the daughter of Clayton Sr. and Bella M. (Gagnon) Butcher and had been a resident of this community for most of her life.

      She was a graduate of Lisbon High School, class of 1955. She was a war polio survivor in 1953. She then attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Kan.

      She was employed as a secretary in the 1950s for the American Red Cross. She also worked in the travel industry as a reservationists in Chicago and for the Colburn Travel Service in Logan, Utah.

      She married Wayne Frankhauser on May 16, 1959. They settled in Monmouth in 1967. After raising a family, she worked for the Department of Human Services in Lewiston, retiring in 1996.

      While living in Monmouth, she was active in the Parent Teachers Club, Mothers Club, Brownies, Girl Scouts and the Kennescoggin Art Club.

      Over the years she and her family spent many happy hours at the coast in Harpswell. Her hobbies included many crafts, sewing, quilting, rug braiding, gardening and traveling.

      In later years she belonged to the Port Polio Support Group of Maine.

      Nancy was known for her love of her family.

      She is survived by her husband, Wayne Frankhauser Sr. of Auburn; one son, Wayne Frankhauser Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, of Pittston; one daughter, Susan Frankhauser of Monmouth; one brother, Thomas Butcher and his wife, Maria, of West Virginia; one sister, Janice Adkisson and her husband, Bob, of Virginia; three grandchildren, Nicklaos Mocciola of Monmouth and Kevin and Erin Frankhauser of Pittston; and several nieces and nephews.

      She was predeceased by a brother Clayton Butcher Jr.
