Joan B. Johnson, 86

BAILEY ISLAND — Joan B. Johnson, 86, died June 16 at the Hospice House in Auburn.
Born on Orr’s Island, April 29, 1925, a daughter of Albert W. and Iona Libby Black, she attended Orr’s Island schools and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1944.
On Dec. 6, 1947, she married Bernard W. Johnson in Brunswick, and made their permanent home on Bailey Island in 1953.
She was an active fundraiser for community projects, a member of the Orr’s Island Cemetery Association and a life member of the Willing Helpers of Bailey Island.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, her son, Bernard W. Johnson, Jr., her sister, Prudence N. French, and a grandson, Pemberton Everett Johnson, II.
Surviving are her two daughters, Wanda J. Johnson and Kathleen Ann Johnson, both of Bailey Island; her brother, Ralph N. Black, Sr., of Orr’s Island; five grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Following her request, there will be no services.
