Lloyd M. Nightingale
SKOWHEGAN -- Lloyd M. Nightingale, 92, of Skowhegan passed away on Friday, Sept. 23, at Redington-Fairview Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Norridgewock on Jan. 2, 1919, the son of Burton and Bertha Libby Nightingale. He graduated from Skowhegan High School and had been a self-employed dairy farmer all of his life. He was a master gardener after attending a course at the University of Maine.
He married Sarah Nightingale on Nov. 22, 1951. He was a lifelong member of the Skowhegan Grange and Pomona, where he was a past master and a sought-after harmonica player. He loved to display his vegetables at Skowhegan State Fair, at which he won many prizes over the years, including a first place for his garden exhibit. He was still a very active gardener at the age of 92. He loved spending time with his family, playing card games and cribbage.
He is survived by his sons, Carroll and his wife, Colette Nightingale, of Skowhegan, and Jeffrey Nightingale of Benton; a daughter, Rebecca Nightingale of Coventry, R.I.; two granddaughters, Angie-Dena Nightingale and Amanda Linn Nightingale; a great-grandson, William Nightingale Spiller; a sister, Rita Walker of Anson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah, on May 8, 2008; his son, Henry; two brothers, Basil and Wendell; and two sisters, Doris Boynton and Dorothy Magoon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to your local food pantry. Arrangements are under the direction of Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris.
